Finding a Healing Path with Jade Williams and Taylor Elyse
The Black Bloom Project was born from our desire to create spaces across the community that were visually impactful/aesthetically pleasing, while still centering BIPOC and allowing us to build community around our many cultural practices for wellness and healing. Jade Williams, Latitude’s November Artist in Resident, will be joined by Author and Coach Taylor Elyse Morrison to offer definitions of communal care while establishing a structure for getting on a healing path. Participants will learn tools for wellness, healing, and traumas. This event will be hosted on zoom so that captions are available to participants. The event will be recorded for the panelist’s archive.

Starling's Unwrapping
Join us for a celebration of art, culture, community and care at Starling, a unique neighborhood hub in North Lawndale dedicated to fostering creativity and community.
Curated by Cristabel Martinez and Jade Williams of The Black Bloom Project, this installation features works from their “Notes on Bloom” collection. The series encourages viewers to lean into both their individual and our collective healing, while reflecting their processes to foster a culture of care.
Detailing central moments and materials from their organization’s archives, this exhibition includes captivating cyanotype prints on paper and fabric, prompting viewers with the question:
How do you plan for something organic?
Doors open at 3:00 pm with refreshments and Starling’s unwrapping to follow. We look forward to sharing this space with you!

Founded in 2019 by siblings Carlos Robles-Shanahan, Rafael Robles, and Karla Robles, Duo Development is the innovative team behind Starling. This pioneering space is designed to promote new possibilities for creative practices and craft interventions that improve our collective quality of life. As the first-of-its-kind amenity in North Lawndale, Starling features Monday Coffee by Amanda Harth and Felton Kizer, alongside flexible areas for residents and organizations to gather, replenish, learn, and create. It serves as a cornerstone for community-driven programming, supporting meaningful connections through art and culture.

GOOD GRIEF
Co-Prosperity is excited to present 𝑮𝒐𝒐𝒅 𝑮𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒇, our last window exhibition of this year! Connecting the visual and cultural cues of my personal grieving/healing processes and the funerary customs of the Black Diaspora, Good Grief reflects the jubilant spirit that carries both the living through the dark and the deceased to the light. Often referred to as a Homegoing or Celebration of Life, death in the Christian African American tradition has served as a catalyst for fellowship, and grief has been the seed of many movements. From Yoruba Ancestral Masquerading rituals (known as Egungun), to Second Line Jazz Funerals and Black Masking Indians, practices of pageantry and parading are as sacred and integral to both collective and individual psyche as the balms of food, song, and prayer. With these elements, this exhibition is a reflection of the healing that has come through celebrating life, honoring death, building community, and holding space for the experiences and emotions that lie in between.
Please join our opening reception on December 9th, from 6-9 PM.
